Students in Grade 4 and Grade 5 are working their way through their One to World Bootcamp where they are learning the basics of using their iPad in a safe and responsible manner. During their conversations with EdTech team and their teachers, students express that they feel empowered as they are given the responsibility to use their own iPads as a learning tool.

Throughout the Bootcamp, we have been talking about important issues such as privacy, responsibility, respect, and being ethical in how students use technology. The things they can do through iPad applications excite children as they embark in a learning journey that cannot be done via classical tools such as paper and pen. At the end of the Bootcamp, students are asked to bring a Device Contract home and have conversations with their parents/guardians about how to be a responsible iPad user at home. These conversations are important in helping to establish the rules for the technology both at school and home, and in strengthening our partnerships with families.

Students from a Grade 4 class collaborated to create an iPad Essential Agreement. After learning about their responsibilities with iPads and reviewing the School’s Acceptable Use Policy, students did a chalk talk on how they can demonstrate the core values of the school. To summarise their learning, the Grade 4 students came up with a collective Essential Agreement that can be viewed via these slides.
