What better way to learn literacy concepts and develop a love of reading than to connect with an older student?

The children in SK5 have been meeting up with their reading buddies in Grade 5-4 for the past 4 weeks now. Every Friday afternoon, the two classes get together to read stories.

Grade 5 buddies pick a special book out for their buddy and read the story to their younger friend. The SK students are not only learning important literacy concepts such as rhythm, rhyme, letter and word recognition, they are also developing a love of literature.

As the children sit together and share their favourite stories, every single child is engaged and on task. The children in both grades look forward to this activity every week and can’t wait to get together with their buddies!
