Doodle4Google Finalist, Elodie
Earlier this calendar year, Google launched the 2015 Doodle4Google competition. This year’s theme was “Singapore, the next 50 years", to coincide with Singapore’s SG50 celebrations (Singapore’s 50th national day). Students from primary and secondary schools in Singapore were invited to compete, with artwork evaluated based on their artistic merit, creativity, theme communication and appropriateness criteria.
One of our Lakeside Grade 8 students, Elodie entered the competition, after a discussion with Secondary EdTech coach, Mr. Boon. Elodie was excited about the concept of creating her own doodle with a futuristic Singapore theme.
Elodie created her doodle, called Destiny, by drawing her imaginary scenery of Singapore in the near future. She drew all the [existing] famous landmarks like the Merlion, the Esplanade, the Singapore Flyer, Marina Bay Sands and Changi Airport, along with her vision of the future where a bullet train, tall futuristic buildings, advanced transportation and eco-friendly surroundings are beautifully illustrated. Elodie channeled a black and white theme, preferring to use a black tip marker, leaving the vivid colours of future Singapore up to viewers imaginations.
Elodie has been interested in drawing since early childhood and would spend most her free time sketching. Nowadays, she enjoys drawing manga and painting landscapes. Her favourite class at CIS is art class, where she is continually introduced to new and exciting forms of art. Elodie’s class teacher, Ms. Sarich, has worked closely with her, and really helped build her confidence in exploring new artworks.
Elodie’s hard work certainly paid off. She was nominated (by the Singapore public) as one of the best 5 doodles in her age category (13 to 15 years). Congratulations Elodie!
