Another Wonderful Season Came to an End at TK
by Louise Pike, Sports Coordinator, TK Campus -
Success is a direct result of determination and hard work. At 7:30am every morning last season, I watched energetic students campus wide who were completely immersed in their competitive sports training. Having a personal love of sports, I found it very satisfying to see the daily improvement, both physically and mentally, as these young athletes learnt the art of teamwork and transformed into responsible team members. Through sport, students learn to understand and appreciate the importance of leading a healthy balanced lifestyle, an understanding we try to cultivate at CIS.
I want to thank our talented coaches, whose time, skills and dedication are highly respected across TK CIS Community. I would like to acknowledge the importance of parents’ support, one of the most critical driving force in students’ achievements. I am tremendously proud of being a part of this big team.
A hearty congratulations to all of our athletes on an amazing season. Well done!
TK Season 2 Wrap-up
10U BOYS FOOTBALL – 4th Place
Coaches: ESPZEN Coach Vivian and Ms. Lorinda Pettigrew
Our 12 man team travelled weekly to play friendly matches at various international schools. The progress each week was tangible as their passing and thinking on the pitch kept the opposition guessing. The culmination of the season was the finals carnival @ St Joseph’s Institution International, where 10 teams competed in a round robin carnival. After some beautifully guided goals, tenacious defence and clever passing, our boys finished 4th overall.
11U MIXED BADMINTON – 7th Place
Coach: Mr. Jin & Mr. Yeo and Ms. Lluen
Our team of 4 boys and 3 girls were playing in the boys’ division this season. They took this in their stride and made huge improvements to their game, fitness and skill-set every week. Guided by their experienced coaches, our boys and girls became a team supporting each other through every match.
11U BOYS FOOTBALL – Bronze Medal
Coach: Ms. Andrea Shum
Knowing each other very well within the team is a great asset. Our 11U boys utilised this asset against their opposition and showed excellent teamwork. Each week they played friendly round robin matches to gain experience, enhance their skills and build their team spirit. With Ms. Shum coaching and guiding the team, they were always on a winning side. The season culminated at the finals carnival at Lakeside where, after 7 matches they earned themselves a Bronze Medal.
12U GIRLS BASKETBALL – Bronze Medal
Coach: Ms. Nikki Leonardo
With our 12U team doubling up from our 11U team, our girls faced a tough season ahead. Under the guidance of Coach Nikki, our girls worked extremely hard on their ball skills and fitness. The girls competed solidly and maintained a wonderful attitude. Whether they won or lost a match, teamwork was their essential ingredient. This theory proved true when they defeated a tenacious UWC East team to win a Bronze Medal.
12U BOYS BASKETBALL – 5th Place
Coach: Mr. Jamie Yorke
A tough season laid ahead as most of our 12U team doubled up from our 11U team. It wasn’t a very lucky season for 12U boys since the first two matches finished in losses by 1 basket! However, they found that extra gear to finish the season strongly in a very credible 5th place. Our home matches proved very successful with support from parents and coach Mr. Yorke. In sum, the boys gained a wonderful perspective on sportsmanship and fair play.
14U GIRLS FOOTBALL – Bronze Medal
Coach: Ms. Natalie Frank
14U Girls football team is a mix of students from Grade 6 to 8 who came together for the love of football. Under the guidance of Ms. Natalie, our girls blossomed and formed a formidable team. Respect, determination, hard work and fun describe this team. Whether training or competing each one of these girls showed maturity beyond their years, proving to be worthy role models. The final match of the season with a nail-biting 3-2 scoreline sealed the bronze medal for our girls.
14U BOYS FOOTBALL – Bronze Medal
Coach: Ms. Kyla Corelli
With a coach like Ms. Corelli, our boys were set to soar this season. Every morning at 7:30am saw the team working hard on the field. This year it was great to see a large group of boys sign up. As well as technique and match play, the boys worked hard on their fitness. With some very physical matches during the season, our boys stepped up and showed such determination and problem solving on the pitch. Finishing the season with a well earned Bronze Medal, our boys should be very proud.
